Between Dance and Island Culture

During this Kizomba dance holiday, you'll enjoy daily Kizomba workshops as well as an introduction to traditional Cape Verdean dances such as Funaná, Morna and Coladeira. Together with local guides, you'll also discover the culture, history and traditions of São Vicente. Alongside the varied programme, there is plenty of time to relax on the beach, meet local people and experience the authentic Cape Verdean way of life. This Kizomba dance tour is ideal for both couples and solo travellers, as local taxi dancers ensure that everyone has a dance partner during the workshops.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Verde

Day 2: Half-Day Excursion “Nôs Ilha – Txeu Stória, Txeu Vida” (Our Island – Rich in Stories, Rich in Life) & Kizomba Workshop

Accompanied by our local guide, we stroll through the streets of Mindelo and discover the history of São Vicente. We learn about the island's origins and development, as well as Mindelo's role as the cosmopolitan heart of Cape Verde. Along the way, we visit the Mercado Municipal (Municipal Market), the Fish Market, the Quintal das Artes (Courtyard of the Arts) and the Mindelo Cultural Centre. In the evening, we come together for our second Kizomba workshop.

Day 3: Free Day & Evening Kizomba Workshop

Day 4: Full-Day Excursion “Entre Mar & Monte” (Between Sea & Mountains) & Kizomba Workshop

Today we explore the island of São Vicente. From Alto Fortim, we enjoy stunning panoramic views over Mindelo before continuing to Monte Verde, the island's highest peak. In Salamansa, we stop for a delicious lunch. Afterwards, we head to Baía das Gatas, where there's time for a refreshing swim. We then visit the sand dunes of Calhau and the charming fishing village of Calhau before returning to Mindelo. Today's Kizomba workshop takes place during the island tour.

Dance Instructors

SOFI & ALEX

Alex and Sofi are a dance couple from Cape Verde and Portugal. They began dancing Kizomba together in 2019, combining influences from traditional styles such as Semba and Kizomba with more contemporary styles like Urban Kiz and Afro House.

Born in Cape Verde, Alex has been dancing Kizomba since 2014 and teaching since 2016. He founded the dance school A's Kizo in Mindelo and is one of the best-known dancers in the Cape Verdean Kizomba scene.

Sofi was born in Portugal and joined Alex in 2019. Together, they combine their experience, creativity and passion to develop and share their own unique dance style.

"Dance has been one of my greatest passions for many years. I had wanted to learn Kizomba for quite some time but had never found the right course. When I came across o Ritmo's 10-day dance tour, it felt like the perfect combination of learning Kizomba and discovering a new country.

Alongside the many excursions, where you experience the real life of São Vicente, the daily dance workshops are, of course, the highlight of the trip. Alex and Sofi are exceptional dance instructors who teach Kizomba with great passion and give personal attention to every participant. Since returning to Switzerland, I haven't found such an authentic dance experience anywhere else. They don't just teach dance technique and footwork – they also share insights into Cape Verdean culture and history, introducing participants to traditional dances such as Morna and Funaná.

I felt so at home in Cape Verde that I returned just a few months later – partly to dance even more, and partly to discover more of the islands. And of course, I booked the entire trip with o Ritmo again!"
